NCDU Varsity Youth Leadership Camp
Last month NCDU continued its first in the nation legacy by hosting the first Varsity Youth Leadership Camp, in Columbia NC. The camp was held at the Eastern 4-H Conference Center, and had twenty varsity leaders from four chapters in attendance. Over the course of the weekend varsity members learned about DU’s history, DU’s conservation of wetlands both in North Carolina and throughout the nation, and DU’s role in wetlands conservation.
The participants were given the opportunity to speak with officials from NCWRC, NC State University, and senior state DU leadership. During the course of the weekend the participants were given the chance to work with adult volunteers to shape recruitment activities, and plan their fundraising event for the current year. Varsity members also were able to meet with their University counterparts from ECU, NC State, and UNC to better understand the transition from the Varsity program to the University program.
After the event the Student advisers reported that they saw a renewed energy in the members and that spread to the rest of their chapter once they returned home. Once again North Carolina is helping to lead the way, building the future leaders in waterfowl conservation, so that we can fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow, and forever.
